Conic Hill via Christ Church

Conic Hill via Christ Church

I got a message from Isabelle: a new commission.

It was her husband’s birthday in three weeks, and she wanted a painting for him. We agreed on the size of the canvas, the price, and then it was up to me.

Even though it was going to be an abstract painting, I wanted the starting point to be something personal to them. Isabelle sent me some photos and I picked out my two favourites: a view of Conic Hill that they had visited on a misty and atmospheric Christmas Eve, and one of Isabelle and their two children on Christchurch Meadow. Those two photos formed the basic structure of the painting, and the rest grew from there.
